Flood Risk Management

What does water mean to you?

Do you love it? Do you fear it? Do you ignore it?

Water is an essential resource for our way of life. We bathe in it, swim in it, drink it, sail on it and our kids even play in it on those hot summer days. So, what if it wasn’t there anymore? Are you taking it for granted that it will be?

Water is not an infinite resource. If we can’t find a way to preserve it, treasure it and to embrace it, we will not only detrimentally impact the environment around us, but also the way we live our lives.

Water is what we do.

We believe that Flood Risk Management goes hand in hand with conserving our water resources. We need to look at ways to reconnect to our water environment. Face into its many positive attributes instead of turning away from it and fearing its destructive power. We can make a choice as a society to do things better.

Our goal is to create engineering solutions that will leave the land, and the water environment it sits in, better off than if we’d simply done nothing.

We believe the future of flood risk management is to manage water where it falls, to hold back the flow and, where possible, give the land back to the river; reconnect them and allow water to find its own way. If we can do this in a consistent and collective way across our landscape, nature will reward us with a more biodiverse environment that is intrinsically more sustainable. We’re looking to build a more sustainable future, one with water at its core.
